When choosing a cycling jersey, people often look at the same criteria: breathability, fit, weight, and the number of pockets.
But a high-performance jersey is never just a list of technical specifications.
What makes the difference is how all these elements work together. A fabric that effectively wicks away sweat is of little use if the cut isn’t right. A perfectly tailored fit isn’t enough if the fabric traps heat. And well-designed details can never make up for a subpar technical foundation.
When developing a product, the challenge is not simply to keep adding more and more technology. It is to find the right balance.
It is this philosophy that has guided the development of the Muriel jersey for the past three years.
This season, it's back with a new checkered design. This update doesn't change what makes the product what it is: a technical foundation designed to handle even the most demanding summer outings.
Fabric: Your Best Ally When the Temperature Rises
When temperatures rise, the main challenge isn't just the heat outside. It's the heat that builds up inside the garment.
The more moisture a fabric absorbs, the heavier it becomes, the less air it allows to circulate, and the more uncomfortable it feels as the kilometers go by.
The Muriel jersey is made from a premium technical fabric manufactured in Italy, selected for its ability to maintain an excellent balance between breathability, softness, and quick-drying properties.
Its design promotes airflow during exercise and quickly wicks away sweat to keep you feeling light, even on the hottest rides.
The goal isn't simply to produce a lighter jersey. It's to maintain that comfortable feel for several hours in the saddle.
A cut designed for riding, not just for a snug fit
The fit of a jersey directly affects how you feel on the bike.
If it's too loose, the fabric shifts, creates wrinkles, and loses stability.
It's too tight, restricting movement and gradually becoming uncomfortable.
The Muriel jersey is based on a design that we've been refining over the past several seasons to find the best balance between support and freedom of movement.
Its cut naturally conforms to your riding position without applying excessive compression. The jersey stays in place as the pace picks up, adapts to changes in position, and gradually becomes second nature.
That is exactly what we expect from technical equipment: that it supports our efforts without ever becoming a source of distraction.
Every detail serves a specific purpose
On a cycling jersey, it's often the small details that make the biggest impact.
The three large back pockets provide easy access to nutrition, a windbreaker, or accessories without throwing the jersey off balance.
The zippered pocket keeps essentials like keys or a credit card safe.
Reflective elements improve visibility as lighting conditions change.
Taken individually, these choices seem simple.
Together, they help make the jersey more functional, more reliable, and more comfortable to wear ride after ride.
A pattern designed to serve as a signature
Checkered jersey doesn't get its name from a simple checkered pattern.
Its design is the result of a truly creative process carried out in-house, with a simple goal: to reinterpret a cycling classic without ever copying it.
Inspired by the graphic styles of the 1980s, the checkerboard pattern has been completely redesigned to become a signature feature unique to Wilma.
Each panel is built around our monogram, which is assembled and deconstructed to create a dynamic pattern that appears different depending on the viewer’s distance and movement.
From a distance, you can make out a checkerboard pattern with irregular lines.
As you get closer, the details gradually come into view, revealing a composition that is much richer than it first appears.
The goal of this graphic design project was not to create a more eye-catching design.
On the contrary.
We wanted to develop a unique, instantly recognizable pattern that retains all its subtlety and complements the product without ever overshadowing its primary function.
Because a high-performance jersey can also have a strong identity—provided the design is crafted with the same attention to detail as the rest of the product.
