How to Enjoy Spring on a Bike
The season of cold rides, long cycling shorts, and triple layers is coming to an end. Welcome back, the days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer; it's time to get out and enjoy the season to the fullest.
At Wilma, spring makes us want to explore new horizons by bike, to go bike-packing while remaining comfortable and protected.
Our tips for successful outings this season 👉
The Importance of Adaptive Equipment:
Layering:
Layering is the art of layering clothing to stay comfortable!
For a body-hugging piece, we recommend a baselayer in a good quality technical material that will keep you dry, essential to avoid catching a cold. (merinos forever ❤️🔥)
* Merino is a thermoregulating material, it adapts to your body heat to keep you dry when it's hot and warm when it's cold
You can add a lightweight jersey , with a material that quickly wicks away your perspiration with mesh panels and for the practical side we advise you to choose one with large pockets 😉
The finishing touch: a windbreaker that you can then remove and store in your jersey pocket. (More information on the windbreaker below.)
For the lower body, you can mix short cycling shorts with leg warmers that can be easily removed.
Keep yourself dry:
Here we talk about bad weather and the famous windbreakers 👇
While spring showers can be refreshing, staying dry while cycling is essential for your comfort. Invest in a lightweight, breathable windbreaker to protect you from sudden gusts and light showers.
A little extra advice from the Wilma team:
- If you're riding in the south and the temperatures are already very cool at this time of year, we recommend our Ruby windbreaker : lightweight, perfect for a light breeze. (From 15° ☀️)
- For temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 degrees, our Lysie windbreakers will be perfect - integrated with a technical membrane and sleeves
- If you ride in the mountains or in places that are still cold, the waterproof Carlotta jacket will be your best ally (from 0 to 5°)
Essential bicycle accessories:
When the seasons change, unpredictable temperature variations mean that to leave with peace of mind, we advise you to always have with you:
- Overshoes that will also help keep your feet dry and protected from splashes.
- A pair of mid-season gloves , neither too warm nor too light, they are perfect for cool mornings and mild afternoons.
- A merino wool bandana , perfect for protecting your neck from drafts or simply adding a touch of style to your outfit
Sun protection:
Don't forget sunscreen, in the team we love the La Rosée stick . You can also wear long-sleeved jerseys SPF50 + like the Césaria (in this case, no need for sunscreen on the body)
Tips for Successful Spring Outings:
- Plan your Itineraries : Take advantage of the mild spring weather to explore new routes and discover landscapes.
- Hydration : With warmer temperatures, it's important to stay hydrated throughout your outings. Always carry one or more water bottles with you to ensure you stay fit and focused.
- Bike Maintenance : After the harsh winter weather, take the time to check the condition of your bike. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, your chain is lubricated, and your brakes are working properly for a safe ride.
Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, we have the gear you need to fully enjoy your bike rides this spring and beyond.
