How to Make the Most of Spring on a Bike

It’s the end of the season for freezing rides, long cycling shorts, and layering up. Welcome back to longer days and warmer weather—it’s time to get out there and make the most of the season.

At Wilma, spring inspires us to explore new horizons by bike and set out on bike-packing adventures while staying comfortable and protected.

Our tips for great outings this season 👉

The Importance of the Right Equipment:

Layering:

Layering is the art of wearing multiple layers of clothing to stay comfortable at all times!

For a close-fitting garment, we recommend a base layer made from high-quality technical fabric that will keep you dry—essential for staying warm. (Merino forever ❤️‍🔥)

*Merino wool is a temperature-regulating fabric that adapts to your body heat to keep you dry when it's hot and warm when it's cold

You can add a lightweight jerseymade from a fabric that wicks away sweat quickly, with mesh panels. For practicality, we recommend choosing one with large pockets 😉

The finishing touch: a windbreaker that you can remove and stow away in the pocket of your jersey. (More info on the windbreaker coming up next.)

For the lower body, you can mix and match short cycling shorts with leg warmers that are easy to take off.

Stay Dry:

Here we're talking about bad weather and the famous windbreakers 👇

Even though spring showers can be refreshing, staying dry during your bike rides is essential for your comfort. Invest in a lightweight, breathable windbreaker to protect yourself from sudden gusts and brief showers.

A little extra tip from the Wilma team:

  • If you're riding in the south and the temperatures are already quite cool at this time of year, we recommend our Ruby windbreaker : lightweight, perfect for a light breeze. (From 15°C ☀️)
  • For temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 degrees, our Lysie windbreakers are perfect—featuring a technical membrane and cuffs
  • If you're riding in the mountains or in places where it's still cold, the Carlotta jacket will be your best friend (0–5°F)

Essential bike accessories:

A change of season means unpredictable temperature swings, so to stay prepared, we recommend always carrying the following with you:

  • A pair of shoe covers that will also help keep your feet dry and protected from splashes.
  • A pair of mid-season glovesneither too warm nor too light—they’re perfect for cool mornings and mild afternoons.
  • A bandana made of merino wool, perfect for protecting your neck from drafts or simply adding a touch of style to your outfit

Sun protection:

Don't forget the sunscreen—we love it in the team stick the dew. You can also wear Long-sleeve jerseys with SPF 50+ like the Césaria (in this case, no need for sunscreen on the body)

Tips for Enjoyable Spring Outings:

  • Plan Your Routes: Take advantage of the mild spring weather to explore new routes and discover new scenery.
  • Hydration: With warmer temperatures, it’s important to stay hydrated throughout your outings. Always carry one or more water bottles to ensure you stay in shape and focused.
  • Bike Maintenance: After the harsh winter, take the time to check the condition of your bike. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, your chain is lubricated, and your brakes are working properly to ensure safe rides.

Whether you're an experienced cyclist or just starting out, we have the gear you need to make the most of your bike rides this spring and beyond.
